DAHLGREN DECON

DAHLGREN DECON™ is a three-component decontaminant that incorporates PES-Solid (Peracetyl borate) as one of the primary ingredients for the decontamination solution. DAHLGREN DECON™ is manufactured by First Line Technology and commercially available. During use, the PES-Solid releases peracetic acid (PAA) immediately upon dissolution in water, creating a reactive species for use in immediate decontamination of chemical and biological warfare agents (CWAs and BWAs). Recent testing also shows DAHLGREN DECON™ is able to decontaminate Fentanyl and Carfentanil. DAHLGREN DECON™ three-component formula requires mixing on-site. The formulation contains the PES-Solid, a surfactant package, and an additive to neutralize the pH of the final decontaminant. When combined, the decontaminant can then be applied by sprayer on contaminated materials. 


What is DAHLGREN DECON™

DAHLGREN DECON™  solution is a three-component solution that can immediately decontaminate chemical and biological warfare agents as well as personal protective equipment (PPE), sensitive equipment, and critical infrastructure. DAHLGREN DECON™ solution will be efficacious for at least six hours after being mixed with any available water source. Live-agent testing indicates that the surfactant based decontamination formula with DAHLGREN DECON™ solution is capable of:
- 100% neutralization of Fentanyl & Carfentanil in under 5 minutes,
- 100% neutralization of HD in less than 2 minutes,
- 100% neutralization of GD in 5 minutes, and
- Approximately 95% neutralization of VX in 15 minutes.

All decontamination activities were found to contain no toxic by-products at the completion of the decontamination activities.

DAHLGREN DECON™  solution can immediately decontaminate chemical and biological warfare agents, Toxic Industerial Chemicals (TIC's) as well as a number of synthetic opioids and amphetamines. In testing conducted by the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal agencies, DAHLGREN DECON™ has been found to be the most effective (in both chemical and biological efficacy) and fastest reacting decontaminant on the market.

Along with chemical and biological warfare agents, U.S. Police Departments have commenced using DAHLGREN DECON™ for incidents involving Fentanyl and Carfentanil as well as the clean up of methamphetamine drug labs. Individual decontamination kits that include DAHLGREN DECON™ as the primary decontaminant are used effectively by the Police forces and First Responders.

In addition to decontaminating an array of threats, DAHLGREN DECON™ neutral pH, non-toxic by-products, and non-flammability allow for decontamination of personal protective equipment (PPE), sensitive equipment, and critical infrastructure.

Dahlgren Decon Elements

DAHLGREN DECON™ consists of three components that are configured appropriately for the decontamination required. The three components are:

1. Part A - Surfactant 
2. Part B1 - Sodium hydroxide
3. Part B2 - Peracetic acid

Depending on the hazard, DAHLGREN DECON™ can be mixed to neutralise the contaminant.

A configurable decontamination solution allows for the effective decontamination and neutralisation of an identified hazard. For many hazards, DAHLGREN DECON™ mixture consists of mixing Part A, B1 and B2 to create a full strength decontaminant used for neutralisation. Depending on the identified hazard, DAHLGREN DECON™ can be configured in an variety of ways. The list of hazards that can be decontaminated is extensive. Decontamination training provided by Australian Decon Solutions will ensure users have an understanding of how to mix and apply DAHLGREN DECON™ as dependent on the identified hazard. Decontamination training will allow users to: 

  • Mix DAHLGREN DECON™ for standard decontamination operations. Operators will learn how to mix the decontaminant in its various configurations and then how to effectively apply it to the hazard.
  • Understand the abilities of the decontaminant and how it can be tailored depending on the hazard identified. Once a hazard is identified, an experienced operator will know if DAHLGREN DECON™ can be further diluted to increase the volume of decontaminant available whilst still maintaining its efficacy. This is only recommended for experienced operators who understand decontamination and the capabilities of the equipment. 
  • DAHLGREN DECON™ Part A, B1 and B2 can be used in a number of configurations. Part A of DAHLGREN DECON™ is an effective decontaminate by itself. Part A is a specially engineered surfactant. It  has the ability to act as a powerful emulsifying agent that can carry out decontamination activities. It works by removing particles, breaking down surface bonds and is equivalent to the way soap operates. This assists in wide area decontamination where the decontamination methodology is to dilute the hazard.
  • Finally, operators will learn how to mix DAHLGREN DECON™ without Part A. This configuration produces a neutralising solution that also has a rapid drying time. Assists in getting critical infrastructure back to its origional configuration. Do you have a Police Cell you need decontaminated? Be back in operations within 30 minutes.

DAHLGREN DECON™ is supplied as three individual components, mixed by the end user, and then loaded into any spray applicator of choice.
