FiberTect®

The Next Generation of Activated Carbon Dry Decon

FiberTect® dry decontamination is a low-cost acquisition and sustainment solution that requires minimal training, is compatible with all decontaminants and spray indicators, and can be easily distributed in mass decon situations. FiberTect® dry decontamination wipes and pads are a three layer, inert, flexible, drapable, non-woven composite substrate for absorbing and adsorbing chemical warfare agents (CWA), toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), and pesticides. FiberTect® is self-contained and packaged for easy use, storage, and transport. Materials used in the outside layers provide both absorption and adsorption properties and multiple functional uses.

Three Layer Design

The three layers of material consist of a top and bottom fabric with a center layer of fibrous activated carbon that is needle punched into a composite fabric. The top and bottom layers provide structural coherence, improving mechanical strength and abrasion resistance. FiberTect is non-particulate and is devoid of loose particles and is effective in decontaminating personnel and sensitive equipment.

TESTING AND DEVELOPMENT
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories (LLNL) testing proved FiberTect® SUPERIOR in all testing results against 30 comparable products for decontaminating against toxic chemical agents, TICs, and TIMs.

- SULFUR MUSTARD: Outperformed all 30 other sorbents for absorptive capacities directly from skin (95% removal) and absorptive capacities, including current military M291 sorbents.

- METHYLPARATHION (ORGANOPHOSPHATE): Outperformed all sorbets for absorptive and adsorptive capacities.

- 70% Nitric Acid, 70% Sulfuric Acid, 10% Sodium Hypochlorite, and P-Xylene: No material degradation.

- WATER AND P-XYLENE: Outperformed other sorbents for both hydrophilic and hydrophobic absorptive capabilities.

FORM FACTORS

- MITTS allow for easy clean-up of bulk chemicals on people, weapons, and sensitive equipment and can be used over protective gloves.

- WIPES are versatile pieces of cut cloth that come individually sealed and can be used in a variety of dry decon situations. Available in multiple sizes.

- ROLLS are made for bulk decontamination by providing users a tailored dry decon solution.

- SHUFFLE PITS combine the function of a decon pool with the capability of dry decontamination to capture and reduce the spread of contaminants. Shuffle Pits are reusable, interoperable with others on the market, and allow for decon within a 90cm x 90cm or 120cm x 120cm footprint. No set up required.

Why FiberTect®?

Decontamination and cleaning crews can use FiberTect® for decontamination and cleanup operations. The nonwoven cotton absorbent wipe combined with an activated carbon core is able to remove toxic substances including chemicals and oil. It absorbs liquids easily and can hold up to 15 times its weight. It has an excellent capacity for containing vapors. FiberTect's® top and bottom layers are made from environmentally friendly raw cotton, and its center layer holds in volatile compounds such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and other toxic chemicals.

Why Wipe? A combined decon approach.
